Anya Ashouri

speech and language pathologist

Anya Ashouri has worked at Anova since 2014 and is a licensed, American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) certified speech-language pathologist.  Anya has over ten years of experience working with children and adolescents with a variety of social, communication and behavioral needs. She received a Master of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology from San Francisco State University and Assistive Technology certificate from California State University Northridge. Anya loves problem-solving and creating a student-centered treatment approach. She wholeheartedly believes that student relationship is imperative for treatment to be successful. Anya particularly enjoys applying her understanding of assistive technology tools and strategies to support each individual’s unique learning needs. Anya strongly believes in continued professional development through coursework, workshops and surrounding herself with a community of professionals who are on a similar mission: to improve the quality of communication and learning for individuals and create resources that are accessible, individualized and meaningful. She views working collaboratively with families and teams as an essential aspect of  treatment. Anya spear-headed a parent-group at Anova in efforts to build a community and create continuity between the school and home environment.

Anya has a unique lens when working with individuals with disabilities and their families. Anya’s mother had a rare and severe diagnosis of Rheumatoid Arthritis. For the majority of Anya's childhood and life, her mother was in a wheelchair. From an early age, her mother instilled in her compassion and empathy for those who are different which she channels with each family and individual she works with. Anya saw first-hand how assistive technology improved the quality of her mother’s life by creating access in areas which grew more difficult for her as her disease progressed. These tools allowed her mother to gain more independence. In Anya’s spare time, she enjoys hiking, running, traveling and trying to keep up with her four-year old daughter.
